The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team hits the road to kick off the final full week of the regular season with a game at Waupaca.
The Spartans picked up a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Freedom 8-1 and 11-4. In game one, Hudson Billings's first career home run gave the Spartans an early lead in the first inning before Eli Derenne added a solo shot in the fourth and Noah Chervenka clubbed a three-run homer in the seventh. Gavin Lax earned the win, allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. Chervenka drove in three runs, and the Spartans stole four bases while playing error-free defense. In the second game, Luxemburg-Casco erased a 2-0 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning before exploding for six more in the sixth. Gavin Lax highlighted the rally with a two-run double. Billings earned the relief win, while Ethan Engum struck out four in the start. The Spartans also showed patience at the plate with eight walks and five stolen bases.
The Comets are 13-7 on the season, having split their last four games against NEC opponents. Last Saturday, they tipped Little Chute 13-12 before falling in the back end of the doubleheader 13-3.
The two teams will play each other on Tuesday in Waupaca and on Thursday in Luxemburg with the first pitch for both games at 4:30 p.m.
