Spartans softball extends winning streak to five

Spartan Softball swept Freedom in a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning game one 4-3 before pulling away in game two 12-6 to push their record to 19-3 and extend their winning streak to five.

Game one was a tight one. Karsyn Walczyk went 3-for-3 with a solo home run on an 0-2 pitch in the fourth, and Gracie Jandrin added another solo shot in the sixth. Claire Schleis was equally locked in, also going 3-for-3 and swiping three of the team's five stolen bases.

Jasmine Jandrin earned the win in the circle, going all seven innings and striking out eight. Freedom made it interesting with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback.

The Spartans blew it open in game two, putting up eight runs in the sixth inning to turn a close game into a 12-6 win. Alayna Deprez was the engine all day, going 3-for-5 with three doubles and three RBIs. Claire Schleis matched her with three hits and three RBIs, including a three-run triple during the big sixth. Riley Westlund, Walczyk, and Abigail Buckmaster each added multiple hits as Luxemburg-Casco piled up 17 on the day.

Jasmine Jandrin went the distance again in game two, allowing just three runs over seven innings.

The Spartans host Algoma on Monday at 4:30pm.
