A four-run through three innings proved to be enough as the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team held on to beat Xavier Monday evening 4-2.
The Spartans scratched across one run on the second inning on a Myles Jandrin RBI single before piling up three runs in the third inning thanks to Noah Chervenka's bases-clearing, two-run triple and Eli Derenne's RB sacrifice fly. The Hawks finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning thanks to a solo shot Quinn Comerford and back-to-back doubles, but the Spartans pitching closed the door after that, retiring six of the final seven batters.
Tatum Klaubauf went 2-3 to lead the Spartans with hits while five others recorded at least one. Ethan Engum earned the win for the Spartans on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs over 4.1 innings of work.
The Spartans are back in action and on the road Tuesday when they travel to Oconto Falls. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
