Luxemburg-Casco Softball split a doubleheader with Wrightstown on Friday, dropping a walk-off opener before bouncing back with a decisive win in the nightcap.
The Spartans fell 5-4 in the first game after Wrightstown scored the winning run on Sophia Garcia’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Luxemburg-Casco outhit Wrightstown 15-12 in the loss and built an early advantage with runs in the second and third innings. Karsyn Walyczyk opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second before Stella Schleis and Riley Westland added RBI doubles in the third. Gracie Jandrin also contributed a sacrifice fly during the four-run start.
Wrightstown answered with a four-run fourth inning to tie the game before Garcia’s walk-off hit ended the contest.
Claire Schleis, Walyczyk, Stella Schleis and Gracie Jandrin each collected three hits for the Spartans, while Alayna Deprez added two hits. Claire Schleis also stole two bases.
Luxemburg-Casco responded in the second game with a 13-5 victory powered by a big offensive performance from Alayna Deprez.
Deprez drove in four runs on three hits, delivering RBI singles in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Spartans erased an early 2-0 deficit with a six-run third inning highlighted by Stella Schleis’ two-run double.
Baylee Wypiszenski earned the complete-game win after allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits over seven innings.
The Spartans finished with 12 hits in the win. Deprez and Abigail Buckmaster each had three hits, while Riley Westland added two. Luxemburg-Casco also showed patience at the plate with five walks and swiped four bases.
