A pitcher's duel swung in favor of the visitors late as Denmark topped Luxemburg-Casco on the baseball diamond 2-1 Thursday evening.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Spartans scratched across a run when Noah Chervenka scored on a Vikings error. The Vikings struck back in the top of the seventh inning when David Dittmer singled in two runs to make it 2-1. The Spartans would have the tying run standing at first base with two outs before Hudson Billings flew out to centerfield to end the threat. Chervenka and Toby Klaubauf tallied the lone hits on the night for the Spartans while Chervenka was the hard luck pitcher after allowing two runs (1 ER) on two hits across 6.1 innings while striking out three.
The Spartans are back in action on Monday when they face Xavier on the road.
