The Luxemburg-Casco softball team needed ten innings to final break through against Southern Door on Monday, scoring seven times in the final frame to pull away with an 8-2 win.
The Eagles struck first in the third inning on an Riley Westland error before the Spartans tied it in the fourth on a Stella Schleis single. It stayed that way until the 10th inning when the Spartans batted around, registering two walks and five singles before the Eagles recorded an out. A fielder's choice brought in the final run for the Eagles in the bottom of 10th, well short of what was needed to keep the game going.
Jasmine Jandrin earned the win from the circle for the Spartans, allowing two runs (1 ER) on nine hits while striking out nine across 10 innings of work. The Schleis sisters combined for three hits and four RBI while Alayna Deprez, Westland, Gracie Jandrin, and Jenna Annoye all drove in runs.
Samantha Melville took the loss for the Eagles, allowing seven runs (7 ER) on six hits) across the final four innings after Alanah Kaye pitched six innings of one hit, one run ball. Kaye went 4-5 and Grace Gutschow went 2-4 while Harper Kramer had the lone RBI for the Eagles.
The Eagles go back to work on Tuesday with a doubleheader in Oconto against the Blue Devils beginning at 4 p.m. while the Spartans are off until Thursday when they face Denmark.
