Spartans baseball fall short against Shawano

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team battled back from a 3-0 deficit only to come up short in a 5-4, nine-inning loss on Monday to Shawano.

After the Hawks tallied two runs in the first and one in the second, the Spartans scored four of the next five runs, which included RBI from Ethan Werner, Gavin Lax, Myles Jandrin, and Eli Derenne. Both teams struggled to push across runs beginning in the sixth inning before the Hawks tallied three consecutive hits to drive in the game-winner.

Werner went 2-3 while five others had at least one hit in the loss. Derenne registered the decision, allowing the walk-off on three hits in the ninth.

The Spartans will go back to work on Tuesday when they face Denmark on the road at 4:30 p.m. The Vikings are 11-3 and had won five in a row before Wrightstown earned the doubleheader split with an 11-1 win in the second game on Saturday.
