Spartans Walk-off Little Chute

It came down to the wire on Thursday, as the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Little Chute. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when Hudson Billings singled, scoring one run.

 

Little Chute opened the scoring in the fourth after Griffin Hank singled, scoring one run. Little Chute committed an error in the bottom of the inning, which helped Luxemburg-Casco Varsity Spartans tie the game at one. A home run to left field by Gerrit Wittman then gave Little Chute the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth. Hudson Billings singled down the left field line, which helped the Spartans tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Hudson Billings earned the win for Luxemburg-Casco. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning. Trevor Verhagen took the loss for Little Chute. The pitcher went two and one-third innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out three and walking three. Noah Chervenka started the game for Luxemburg-Casco and the starting pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs (two earned) over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking four. Reece Joten began the game for Little Chute. The pitcher surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking four.

 

Billings went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Billings and Ethan Werner each collected two hits. The Spartans had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Gavin Lax, Noah Chervenka, and Jacob Coisman led the team with two walks each. Eli Derenne stole two bases. Luxemburg-Casco ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game and also turned one double play in the game.

 

Gerrit Wittman drove the middle of the lineup, leading Little Chute with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-4 on the day. Gerrit Wittman, August Hawthorne, Griffin Hank, Reece Joten, and Trevor Verhagen each collected one hit for Little Chute. Little Chute turned one double play in the game.

 

Luxemburg-Casco will welcome New London on Friday for their next game.
