Spartans crush Clippers on 104.1 WRLU

Some nights, everything just goes your way, and Monday night was one of those nights for Luxemburg-Casco, as it cruised to a 74-30 win over Sturgeon Bay on 104.1 WRLU.

After trading baskets early in the contest, a 16-0 run by the Spartans through the middle of the first half separated the two teams. Luxemburg-Casco forced turnovers and misses on the defensive end and took advantage of its opportunities in transition. The run finally ended when Vincent Laughlin earned and converted an and-one opportunity, making the score 23-9. That would be as close as Sturgeon Bay would get the rest of the way, as the Spartans finished the half on another run, outpacing the Clippers 16-3 over the remainder of the period to take a 39-12 lead into the locker room.

The second half started a bit slower for both teams, as it took a few minutes for each side to hit its first field goal. But once again for Luxemburg-Casco, once the lid was off the basket, it stayed off. Much like the first half, the recipe for success came from forcing Clippers turnovers and scoring in transition. With the game firmly in hand, coach Jandrain was able to go deeper into his bench and keep the momentum going. Every Spartan who suited up got into the game and scored, as Luxemburg-Casco cruised to the final score of 74-30.

As mentioned, every dressed Spartan scored, but 14 points from Ethan Ropson and 13 from Mason Trimberger set the pace for LC. Alex Biden and Siggy Hansen each scored five to lead the Clippers in defeat.

Sturgeon Bay will be back in action Tuesday, traveling around the bay to Peshtigo for a Packerland Conference game, while Luxemburg-Casco resumes North Eastern Conference play with a road trip to Waupaca on Friday.

Before that game, be sure to check out the Luxemburg-Casco Winter Sports Pep Rally, hosted by Tim Kowols and Eric Fischer, on Tuesday night from the Rendezvous of Luxemburg at 6 p.m. The event will air on the NEW Sports Network Facebook page.
