The Luxemburg Casco Spartans survived a second half surge by the Southern Door Eagles on Friday night to keep the Eagles winless.
The Eagles won the opening tip, and put 2 points on the board or a very early lead, but the Spartans quickly answered with a three to take the early 3-2 lead. Throughout the rest of the first half, the press of the Spartans gave the Eagles plenty of trouble forcing double digit turnovers in the half alone. LC used that surge, to double up the point total of the Eagles in the half thanks to 12 points from Tatem Klaubauf, and 6 each from Bryce Piesler, Ethan Propson, and Eli Derenne. Southern Door trailed 17-35 at the break with their leading scorer of the half being Talon Mueller with 7.
For anyone who tuned out at the break, they missed a second half surge from Southern Door. The Eagles off and defense came out swinging in the second half, preventing the Spartans from putting a single point on the board for the first 10 minutes of the half while on a 14-0 run. During the run, Lauden Berg would score nearly all of his game high 18 points, helping cut the game to a much closer 31-34 tally. Rhyker Lohrey and Talon Mueller each added 9 in the game.
The Spartans would finally get back in to the scoring column with a 3 by Bryce Piesler. The teams would trade buckets from that point on until in the final 2 minutes, the Spartan defense began forcing turnovers, and thanks to early foul trouble blew the game back open to its eventual 56-42 final.
