Spartans girls basketball sparked by strong defense

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans (1-3) earned their first win of the season Tuesday night, locking down Little Chute (2-1) with a dominant defensive performance in a 47-23 victory.

L-C set the tone early, holding the Mustangs to just seven total points in the first half while building a 26-7 lead. The Spartans stayed disciplined defensively allowing them to create turnovers and maintain momentum.

On the offensive end, Alayna Deprez powered the Spartans with 14 points, knocking down seven field goals. She wasn’t alone as Chloe Host added 9, Sienna Blohowiak grabbed 8, and Brianna Bray topped the quad off with 7 as the Spartans spread the floor and shared the ball well all night.

Little Chute’s best push came in the second half, fueled by Lauren Vosters’ 9 points, but the Mustangs never cut the gap to single digits. Luxemburg-Casco kept the pressure on, stayed clean defensively, and avoided the turnovers that have hurt them early in the year.

With their first win down, the Spartans will look to build on the momentum as they continue the early season games. They'll get a break though, next facing Waupaca December 11th at 7 p.m.
