Spartans volleyball yield outright title despite conference loss

There was still plenty to celebrate on Tuesday for the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team despite a 3-2 loss to Waupaca.

The Comets looked like they were going to cruise past the Spartans by winning the first two sets. The Spartans won the next two sets, but the Comets shot past them in the decisive fifth set to win 25-23, 25-20, 14-25, 24-26, 15-5.

Leading the way for the Spartans were Alayna Deprez (44 assists, 12 digs), Aubrey Frey (29 kills, 11 digs), Danica Bartels (11 digs), and Rylan Kaminski (15 digs).

Head coach Jeff Frey delivered high praise for his opponents, adding that this was a great experience for his team. "What an absolute battle tonight, hats off to Liz and her team," Frey said. "Peyton Carlson is an absolute beast.  They came out of the gates ready and kicked us in the teeth in those first two sets.  This was a great opportunity for our girls to play in an intense environment with some adversity, as our regional is absolutely stacked, and I loved the way we responded. I could not be more proud of the way our team played with our backs against the wall and the grit we showed."

Despite the result, the Spartans were still able to hold their head high as the outright NorthEastern Conference Champions.
