Another fast start powered Luxemburg Casco past Xavier, as the Spartans rolled to a 35-7 win that was heard on 104.1 WRLU.
Xavier received the opening kick and strung together 3 straight plays for 1st downs, before Luxemburg Casco’s defense found its footing. Once settled in though, the Spartans dug in their heels and wound up forcing a turnover on downs. Now with the ball, a couple chunk plays courtesy of Mason Trimberger and Cam Dorner, brought the Spartans to the red zone, with a 4 yard Brayden Loritz touchdown run capping the drive. Jacob Walton’s kick was no good, but gave L-C a 6-0 lead. After forcing a Hawks punt, the Spartans took over from its own 20, and marched down the field, with Loritz converting a 4th and 1 run near the goal line, and then scoring on the next play on a 1 yard touchdown run. Loritz also ran in the 2 point conversion to give the Spartans a 14-0 lead. The Luxemburg Casco defense remained stout and forced another quick stop and punt. This time, after taking over from midfield, a 3rd and 9 wound up in the end zone, as Eli Derenne found Mason Trimberger for a 49 yard touchdown catch and run. Walton’s next kick was good, capping off the scoring for the 1st half, with the Spartans leading 21-0.
After both teams traded punts to open the 2nd half, Luxemburg Casco got back in business offensively. After returning a punt to the Xavier 18 yard line, Cam Dorner took the drive’s opening play to the house, for his first touchdown of the season. The Spartans defense did their part once again, forcing another 3 and out, with Xavier forced to punt, backed up deep in its own territory. Dorner once again found the endzone, with a 28 yard touchdown on his second carry of the drive. Walton drilled another kick to put Luxemburg Casco up 35-0, activating a running clock for the remainder of the game. The Spartans defense forced one more 3 and out, before giving way to the reserves to get some key snaps with the game firmly in control. Xavier would get on the board, as Ben Kappell took a direct snap 69 yards for a touchdown. Ethan Bires hit his PAT kick, resulting in what would be the final score, 35-7. The Spartans ran more clock before punting, and Xavier got a couple plays off before the clock hit 0:00.
Luxemburg Casco moves to 2-0 on the season, wrapping up the nonconference season by avenging a pair of losses from last year. The Spartans will return home next week, begging North Eastern Conference play against the Denmark Vikings.
