The Division 2 state runner-up, Luxemburg-Casco, also opened its season with a quad, but in Neenah instead, facing Appleton North, Bay Port, Notre Dame, and Neenah on Tuesday. The Spartans beat Appleton North (2-0) and Notre Dame (2-1), while dropping close matches to Bay Port (21-25, 21-25) and Neenah (25-27, 21-25).
Leading the way for the Spartans were Alayna Deprez (88 assists, 23 digs, 8 aces), Aubrey Frey (43 kills, 26 digs), Claire Schleis (22 kills), and Rylan Kaminski (28 digs).
"It was a good first night of the season," said head coach Jeff Frey. "We have a number of inexperienced players who tonight was their first varsity action, there were a ton of learning opportunities and they all grew. We have a long ways to go and grow as a team and as individuals, and that’s exciting."
They move on to another non-conference tournament this Friday, August 29, where they’ll face Kaukauna, Randolph, and Kewauskum starting at 12:00 p.m.
