Luxemburg-Casco and Southern Door saved the drama for the final inning of their make-up tilt on Saturday with the Spartans prevailing 4-3.
The Spartans struck first in the third inning when Gavin Lax singled in a run to make it 1-0. It would stay that way until the sixth inning when Tyler Neinas hit a RBI double that drove in Braylon Berg to tie the game at one. The bats came alive for both teams in the seventh inning as the Spartans scored three times on back-to-back singles from Landon Derenne and Ethan Werner. The Eagles did not go down quietly as Jerek Valley scored on an error and Tyler Neinas singled in another one to get to within one run of the Spartans. With two on and two out, Derenne struck out Isaac Baudhuin to end the threat and the game in the same pitch.
Neinas paced the Eagles at the plate with two hits and two RBI while Baudhuin, Valley, and Mason Paye each tallied one hit. Jack Jeanquart took the loss in the complete game effort, allowing four runs (4 ER) on seven hits while striking out three. For the Spartans, seven different players tallied hits while Werner paced the team with RBI with two. Lax earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 batters across six innings as he allowed one run (1 ER) on four hits.
