Spartans volleyball falls to Bay Port

In a matchup of two powerhouse volleyball programs Tuesday night in Luxemburg, the Bay Port Pirates defeated the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19).

The Spartans came out strong, taking set one 25-21, but Bay Port responded by winning the next three sets to take the match.

Alayna Deprez led the Spartans with 38 assists and 20 digs, while Ella Vander Velden contributed 14 kills, eight digs, and five aces.  Other Spartans on the stat sheet included Aubrey Frey with 14 kills and 15 digs, Campbell Onell with eight kills, and Rylan Kaminski with 25 digs, along with three aces.

Coach Jeff Frey said after the match,  "This was great match for us to play early in the season against a really good team.  I thought we came out of the gates and played with a lot of energy, and served really aggressively in set 1.  In the last few sets we didn’t play as confidently and were not as aggressive as I would like to see us. It’s a great opportunity to learn and grow. A lot of credit goes to Jeremy and his team, they made some great adjustments. He has done a heck of job with his program. "

Luxemburg-Casco is now 7-1 for the season.
