The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dropped a pair of games to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Saturday, 1-0 and 12-0, in a North Eastern Conference baseball doubleheader.
In the opener, the Spartans could manage only two hits, one by Caleb Radant in the third inning and one by Max Thayse to lead off the seventh inning. Foxes starter Alex Torrio shut out the Spartans while striking out five in going the distance. Braeden Schley was the hard-luck loser, giving up only one run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning and going 5 2/3 innings while giving up only three hits.
In the second game, the Foxes jumped on Drew Bandow with seven runs in the first inning on five hits and never looked back in the 12-0 five-inning game.
Bandow led off the game with a single for the only Spartan hit in the nightcap.
L-C Coach Dan Routhieaux says the offense could not get going, and the Spartans' game got away from them quickly in the second game.
The Spartans (8-7, 11-7 overall) will now host NEC-leading Little Chute on Tuesday, while Fox Valley Lutheran (10-5, 11-9 overall) will travel to Waupaca to take on the Comets.
Between games, Luxemburg-Casco honored over a dozen alumni in attendance, including Tim Jorgenson, who was presented a framed number 34 jersey with it now retired in Spartan baseball.
