Spartans tangle with Foxes for regional volleyball title

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team has to go through a familiar opponent in Fox Valley Lutheran if they want to make the sectional round of the WIAA Volleyball Tournament.

 

The Spartans swept Winneconne in their semifinal on Thursday 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-12). It marked the second straight tournament match in which the Spartans' opponent could not crack 20 points in a set. Leading the way for the Spartans were Alayna Deprez (30 assists, five digs, four aces), Aubrey Frey (10 kills, ten digs), Jacinda Bennett (8 kills), and Payton Kaminski (18 digs).

 

The Foxes swept Sturgeon Bay 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15). Ava Patchett distributed the ball well with 21 assists for the Foxes, while Annalise Patchett, Emma Nilson, and Greta Nolte combined for 25 kills.

 

During the regular season, they were swept by the Foxes won with scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-20. Alayna Deprez paced the Spartans with 32 assists and 11 digs, while Aubrey Frey had 15 kills, 12 digs, and 3 blocks. Campbell Onell added 5 kills and 2 blocks, and Miranda Schmidt chipped in 5 kills and 4 blocks and Payton Kaminski had 18 digs. "What an atmosphere for a high school volleyball game tonight," said head coach Jeff Frey after the match. "My hats off to FVL, they out played us today, and deserved to win.  This one stings, as it’s our first loss in conference play in four years.  We’ll get back to work, as we know we will see FVL again soon."

 

The first serve is set for 7 p.m. at Fox Valley Lutheran.
