Despite delaying the games two hours due to weather conditions on Saturday morning, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans managed to sweep an important doubleheader, 5-2 and 5-0, at home against the Oconto Falls Panthers. Winning 5-2 in the opener, the Spartans were carried by a strong pitching performance by Ryan Routhieaux and some timely hitting.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the first game after Panther starting pitcher Jack Adler set L-C down in order the first three innings. In the fifth inning, the Spartans exploded for four runs with two clutch two-out, two-run RBI doubles by Routhieaux and Garrett Simonar. Routhieaux gave up a pair of unearned runs in the top sixth, but L-C prevailed 5-2 in the opener.
In the nightcap, Braeden Schley pitched a masterpiece three-hit complete game shutout. The Spartans scored two runs in the third and fifth inning to take control of the game. Cole Jacquet had two RBIs with a successful suicide-squeeze bunt and a double to lead the Spartan attack.
Luxemburg-Casco (6-6, 7-9 overall) will take on the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes in Appleton on Monday after playing five games in the last four days.
