Big first inning helps Spartans sink Marines, face Algoma Friday

Eight runs in the first inning were all the Luxemburg-Casco softball team would need in a 14-2 win over Marinette Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans' offense frustrated Marines pitcher Bre Adamski, who gave up all 14 runs on 12 hits and five walks across four innings. Payton Kaminski and Grace Kahr each registered a pair of hits while Jillian Jorgensen collected three RBI and a hit to lead Luxemburg-Casco. Savannah Jandrin earned the win, surrendered one run on four hits over two innings, striking out two and walking zero.

The Spartans will make up their game against Algoma Friday afternoon at Algoma at 4:30 p.m. The Wolves saw their four-game winning streak come to a crashing halt at home against Peshtigo as they dropped both ends of their doubleheader to the Bulldogs 6-5 and 9-1. Amelia Robinson, Teagen Luedke, Brooke Mattson, and Macie Zimmerman helped lead the rally that forced extra innings in game one of the Peshtigo doubleheader while Robinson collected the only RBI in the second loss, spoiling a two hit day by Ryley Zimmerman.
