Spartans boys open NEC play traveling to Marines

The Luxemburg Casco Spartans boys’ basketball team will look to bounce back from their opening loss to the Kewaunee Storm as they begin NEC play against the Marinette Marines.

The Spartans were not able to stop the guard play of Kewaunee, including junior guard Thomas Stangel who ended up scoring 21 on the night. Luxemburg Casco hung around for a while, but the Storm were too strong for the Spartans, who were playing their first game after losing an exodus of players from their past senior class. The Spartans will shift their attention to Marinette, who they were able to have their way with last season winning all three matchups by 10 or more.

Marinette has not played a game yet this season, as they are opening up with conference play against the Spartans. The Marines will retain their second leading scorer from last season, as Sam Sommerfeldt averaged 10.2 points per game in 25 games played last season. Marinette struggled at times in the past season, going 6-19, but hope to turn that around starting against the Spartans.

Tip is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. in Marinette
