Spartans hang on for 21-17 win over Xavier on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans edged the Xavier Hawks 21-17 in a non-conference game Friday night at Rocky Bleier Field in Appleton. Turning the Hawks away at midfield in the final minute on an interception by Sam Schutz, allowed the Spartans to remain undefeated for the season.

The Spartans scored first on a 13 yard run by Jacob DeGrave in the first quarter and a 37 yard run by quarterback Max Ronsman to give L-C a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

Xavier would come back to score on a 25-yard field goal by A.J. Seidler on the final play of the half and carryover the momentum with two touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 17-14.

Luxemburg-Casco responded with the drive of the game when Ronsman hit Ryan Routhieaux from 15 yards out to give the Spartans the lead for good at 21-17.

Xavier turned the ball over four times in the game, including two fumbles in the fourth quarter that the Spartans could not capitalize on, but the interception on fourth down by Schutz sealed the victory with :44 left in the game.

Luxemburg-Casco (3-0) will now play the Winneconne Wolves next Friday night at home on Veterans Night with pregame on 104.1 WRLU and New Radio Sports Network starting at 6:45 and kickoff at 7 pm.  Tim Kowols and Reece Robillard will have the call for the game.
