Spartans outlast Eagles 60-55 on 96.7 WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans hung on to beat the Southern Door Eagles 60-55 in a non-conference game Monday night.  The Eagles fell behind as much as 15 points in the second half but could not get any closer than four points.

The Spartans jumped to an 18-10 lead in the first half and led by as many as 11 points before closing the half with a 34-24 advantage.  Hot-shooting from the three-point arc carried the Spartans as L-C hit seven threes in the first half with Owen Deprez hitting three of them.

Freshman Drew Daoust kept the Eagles in the game scoring 11 of his team-high 22 points in the first half.  Taylor Schaefer had a strong inside game scoring 15 points for Southern Door, but it was not enough.

Peyton Mrotek paced the Spartans with 23 points, hitting seven of 11 free throws in the second half to seal the victory for Luxemburg-Casco.  Deprez finished with 16 points, including the three three-pointers that carried the Spartans to the early lead.

Southern Door falls to 9-8 overall and returns to play on Friday night against Sevastopol in a game that will be on 104.1 WRLU.  The Spartans (6-7, 9-8 overall) will now host Oconto Falls Thursday night, returning to play in the NEC.

The next Spartan basketball broadcast will be Tuesday as the L-C girls host Clintonville.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call with the pregame set for 6:30 pm on 96.7 FM WBDK and tip off shortly after 7 pm from Luxemburg-Casco High School. The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.
