Spartans pull away from Wrightstown on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans kept their perfect record intact with a big 40-21 road conference win over Wrightstown Friday night.  The Spartans overcame a slow start to pull away by scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the final 13 minutes.

Wrightstown took the opening drive down for a score to go up 7-0 in the first quarter before the Spartans responded on a three-yard run by Isaac VandenBush with 6:17 left in the second quarter.  A missed extra point left the score 7-6 and the Tigers converted on a two-yard run by Isiah Pennenberg right before halftime to take a 14-6 lead into intermission.

The Spartans survived a fumbled kick-off to start the second half when Wrightstown missed a 40-yard field goal attempt.  L-C then pulled even with the Tigers 14-14 on a 35-yard pass from Owen Deprez to Ryan Routhieaux and a two-point conversion.

After the Tigers scored a touchdown with two minutes left in the third quarter, VandenBush responded with a huge 64-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds left in the quarter.  A mishandled snap on the extra-point attempt kept the Spartans behind at 21-20.

The fourth quarter was all Spartans as Deprez hit Routhieaux from 26 yards out to give L-C a 26-21 lead with 6:47.  VandenBush added two more TD runs of six yards and 16 yards to put the game away.

A Routhieaux interception with 2:53 left salted away the prolonged and penalty-ridden game for the Spartans.

Luxemburg-Casco (1-0, 4-0 overall) will now host Little Chute next Friday night on Veterans and Youth Night.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.
