The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans wrestling team came up just short in its Tuesday morning dual meet against Division 1 power Bay Port, losing 40-30.

After the Spartans received forfeits at 160 pounds and 170 pounds, the Pirates drew first blood with three straight victories including Drake Anderson's pin of Joey Chervenka at 195 pounds. The Spartans would start their own winning streak after Travis LeGrave got six on the board due to an injury default to Connor Corrigan. Issac Jerabek (106 lbs) and Easton Worachek (113 lbs) picked up pins to give the Spartans a 30-12 advantage.

The Spartans would not win another match as Nicholas Schomaker beat Jake Jandrin 7-1 to earn the decision. Carter Kallies got a 12-0 major decision over Tyler Derenne at 132 pounds before a double forfeit at 138 pounds. Tristin Thiry dropped a close 3-1 decision to Bay Port's Ayden Bruckner at 145 pounds before Jacob Ward closed out the dual with a pin of the Spartans' Hunter Joniaux at 152 pounds. 

The Spartans will hit the mat again next Thursday at home against NEC rival Freedom. The first whistle is set for 6:30 p.m.
