Luxemburg-Casco finds a way in OT

Luxemburg-Casco Spartans girls’ basketball second-year head coach Taylor Schmidt led her team to their fourth win of the season over the Oconto Falls Panthers, 47-46. This fourth victory signified Schmidt’s win total in the 2019-20 campaign. The Panthers ended the first half up one point over the Spartans, 21-20. The Spartans went on an 8-0 scoring in the second half to take the lead 37-32. The Panthers did not score a bucket for over 5 minutes midway through the second half, that was due to an aggressive Spartans defense. The Panthers went on a 7-0 scoring run of their own to tie the game up, 39-39 with 43 seconds left to play in the second half, which would prevail for an overtime matchup.

The Spartans won the coin toss to receive first dibs to start overtime play and that went over well for the Spartans Taylor Thiry (17 points) who completed a triple point play to up the Spartans 42-39. LC’s Lauren Adams sank a pair of crucial free throws to extend the lead, 44-41. The Panthers punched right back with a basket of their own to make it a one-point game, 44-43. LC gathered their composure and finished strong with another five points from Thiry during overtime play, she led the team with 19 points total. The Spartans nailed five of their six free throws in overtime to solidify the win. The New Radio Sports Network team caught up with Schmidt for an exclusive post-game interview:
