Spartans cross country teams qualify for sectionals

The last time this season on its home cross country course proved fruitful for the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans as both squads qualified for Saturday's sectional.

 

The girls qualified with a second-place finish in the six-team field, four of which had enough runners to challenge for a title. The Spartans' 37 points finished behind the 25 points scored by Two Rivers despite having four of their top five runners finish in the top 10.  Sophia Mleziva edged out teammate Megan Vandermause for the top spot on the team with a time of 00:21:13.06 on the 5K course. Vandermause came in just a half-second later. The full L-C results are below with the full subsectional results available here.

The boys also qualified with a second-place finish, finishing behind a strong Valders squad. Valders won the team title with 21 points and an average time of less than 17 minutes. Luxemburg-Casco scored 70 with an average time of 18:35. Spencer Thiry paced the Spartans with a time of 17:20, which was good for fourth place overall. All competitors for the Spartans covered the course in less than 20 minutes and all scoring runners finished in the top 20.
