The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans fell to the Wrightstown Tigers 41-16 in the North Eastern Conference football opening game on Friday night. The Spartans (0-1, 1-1 overall) is coming off a big 41-15 victory over Waupaca last Friday. Wrightstown roared back from a 16-14 deficit in the first half to score 34 consecutive points to roll to the victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans got on the board first on a 4-yard touchdown run by quarterback Owen Deprez with 9:47 left in the second quarter. Luxemburg-Casco then capitalized on a fumble recovery as John Larsen hit a 27-yard field goal with 7:17 left until halftime. After Wrightstown scored to make it 10-7, L-C struck again for the final time on a 25-yard pass from DePrez to Ryan Robillard to make it 16-7 Spartans.
Wrightstown used a strong running attack all night long to wear down the Spartan defense on the way to the 41-15 victory.
The Tigers celebrated Parents Night and Senior Night prior to the game.
Luxemburg-Casco (0-1, 1-1 overall) will now play the Freedom Irish next Friday night in Luxemburg. Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK. The game audio can also be streamed on NewRadioSports.com.
