Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco clash on softball diamond

Two Kewaunee County rivals will meet along the lakeshore Monday afternoon when Kewaunee welcomes Luxemburg-Casco on its softball diamond.

Kewaunee softball battled through a roller-coaster Saturday, dropping a tough opener before responding with a dramatic walk-off win to split with Oconto. In Game 1, the Storm looked in control early, building a 6-1 lead behind a flurry of hits, but couldn’t hold off a late surge in a 9-8 loss. Kewaunee out-hit Oconto 13-10, with Braelyn Chevalier and Vivian Bootz each collecting three hits, but an eight-run sixth inning flipped the game. Despite the setback, the Storm showed consistent production throughout the lineup and played clean defensively without an error.

Game 2 turned into an all-out shootout, and another late-game swing saw Oconto take a 16-15 lead in the eighth. But the Storm answered. Kambriea Last and Breanna Riha came through in the bottom half as a fielder’s choice from Riha scored Last, pushing across the winning run in a 17-16 walk-off victory.

Luxemburg-Casco softball used a five-run fifth inning to generate a walk-off run-rule victory over the Marinette Marines Friday, 10-0. The Spartans held a 5-0 lead through four innings and were in control of the game behind strong pitching from Baylee Wypiszenski and Jasmine Jandrin who combined for 3 hits and 6 strikeouts in the shutout. Wypiszenski earned the win in the circle. Alayna Deprez reached all four times she stepped up to the plate with a double and three walks while scoring and driving in a run. Schleis also had a standout day offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
