Kewaunee proves it can win in a multitude of ways

Kewaunee Storm baseball completed a sweep of Oconto on Saturday, riding dominant pitching in Game 1 and timely late-game execution in Game 2.

In the opener, Brett Paulsen was untouchable. The left-hander tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing just two walks in a 10-0 run-rule victory. Kewaunee wasted no time giving him support, exploding for five runs in the first inning.

Connor Kilgore’s two-run double highlighted the early surge, while the Storm continued to apply pressure with aggressive baserunning and disciplined at-bats, finishing with seven walks and six stolen bases. Blake Temme added to the offensive depth with a pair of hits and three RBIs from the lower half of the lineup.

After cruising in the opener, the Storm were pushed into a tight, low-scoring battle, tied 1-1 into the sixth inning. Instead of letting the momentum slip, Kewaunee delivered the decisive blow. Kilgore came through again, launching a two-run homer to left that broke the tie and lifted the Storm to a 3-1 win.

Waylon Delain grinded through six innings, allowing just one unearned run and striking out five. The defense backed him up with two double plays, and Paulsen returned to the mound to shut the door and secure the save, capping a dominant day on both sides of the ball.

The Storm travels to face Sevastopol on Thursday at 4 p.m.
