For the second year in a row, the Kewaunee Storm girls basketball team will move on to sectionals after beating Oconto 65-30 Friday night for the regional championship.
After Oconto took an early 5-3 lead, the Storm took control of the game with a 16-0 run that left Blue Devils chasing their hosts for the rest of the evening. Jade Kroll was a big reason for the early success with 20 first-half points, including four three-pointers.
Breanna Riha and Summer Walechka combined for 11 points, matching the Blue Devils' lineup as the Storm entered the locker room with a 31-11 halftime lead.
Kroll's hot-shooting continued in the second half as she hit another three three-pointers to go along with a pair hit by Gabby Stangel. Both teams emptied their benches in the later stages of the game, allowing the Blue Devils fans to salute their seniors while the Storm allowed theirs to get some final minutes in their home gym.
Kroll ended her evening with a game-high 38 points while Summer Walechka added 11 points and Breanna Riha added eight points. Bella Coshenet led the Blue Devils with nine points, and Kara Termaat added eight points.
The Storm will face Manitowoc Lutheran on Thursday in the sectional semifinal. The Lancers defeated Algoma 68-29 to win the regional championship. The game will air on 96.7 WBDK from Denmark with Tim Kowols on the call. The broadcast will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the tip-off at 7 p.m.
