The Kewaunee girls basketball team became the Packerland Conference champions on Tuesday night after tipping Algoma 54-52 Monday night on the road.
The win came despite the Wolves losing one of their top players, Jadyn Nellis, in the opening minutes of the game. Lauren Loucks and Sadie Rikkola did waht they could to make up for their teammate's abscence in the first half with six points a piece. The Storm countered with 10 points from Jade Kroll and eight from Summer Walechka to give the team a 30-26 edge at the break.
The Wolves tightened things down on defense, allowing 24 in the second half, but could not do enough offensively to tip the scales back in their favor to prevent the coronation on their court. Kroll ended up with 24 points while Walechka added 12 points in the Storm clincher. The Wolves received 14 points from Loucks, 11 points from Reagan Schneider, and nine points apiece from Claire Gerdmann and Rikkola.
The Wolves shift their focus to Friday's matchup against Freedom while the Storm will battle Gibraltar on Thursday.
