Miller leads Kewaunee girls at State as area runners cap fall season in Wisconsin Rapids

The Ridges Golf Course hosted the WIAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday. Plenty of local representation came in the girls Division 3 race.

Darlington claimed the Division 3 team title with a score of 92, edging Kohler (96) in one of the tightest finishes of the day. Aquinas (122) and Cochrane-Fountain City (133) followed close behind to round out the top four teams.

From the local contingent, Kewaunee senior Hannah Miller delivered a final standout performance, finishing third overall in 18:55.8 just behind Kohler’s Maggie Behler and Cochrane-Fountain City’s Addy Duellman. Miller’s top-three finish helped Kewaunee to a 10th-place team standing (211 points), marking a strong end to another successful season for the Storm.

Kewaunee also received solid runs from Natalie Miller (74th, 21:29.8), Kaylyn Martin (76th, 21:32.2), Noelie El Kout(97th, 22:07.7), Alison Szydel (115th, 22:39.1), Karla Swagel (129th, 23:18.4), and Alison Kuehl (134th, 23:40.5).

Elsewhere among Door and Kewaunee County programs, Sevastopol freshman Breiah Newton completed her first state meet in 66th place (21:14.0), giving the Pioneers a promising glimpse of what’s ahead.
