Storm rolls post Huskies for Regional championship on 104.1 WRLU

The #2 Kewaunee Storm claimed a regional championship on Thursday afternoon, defeating the #3 New Holstein Huskies 7-2 in a WIAA Division 3 regional final in Kewaunee.  

 

Brady Pribek pitched six strong innings, and the Storm's offense was opportunistic with key hits and great plate discipline drawing eight walks.

 

New Holstein scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Ethan Schmitz to take a 1-0 lead. 

 

The Storm responded in the bottom of the second inning by sending eight players to the plate and collecting four runs on just two hits.  After Diesel Bosdeck reached on an error, Waylon Delain and Alec Carlson hit back-to-back run-scoring doubles.  Later in the inning, Kewaunee scored on a wild pitch, Micah Vanness walked and Ethan Paplham hit a sacrifice fly to put the Storm up 4-1.  

 

Kewaunee tacked on another run in the third an RBI single by Carlson that scored pinch runner Peyton Schaller.

 

New Holstein cut the lead to 5-2 on a solo home run by DH Max Hellman in the fifth inning. The Storm got that run back on a bases loaded walk by Vanness in the bottom of the inning when the Huskies walked four batters.

 

A sacrifice fly by Bosdeck in the sixth inning gave the Storm an insurance run to close out the scoring.

 

Pribek gave up only three hits over six innings and did not walk a batter win picking up the win.  Delain pitched a perfect seventh inning to close out the regional championship for Kewaunee. 

 

 

 

The Storm will now play in the Division 3 sectional semi-final against the Chilton Tigers, who defeated the Algoma Wolves 4-3 in the other regional final.  The pregame on 104.1 WRLU will be at 12:45 p.m. with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. from Chilton High School.
