The Kewaunee Storm blitzed the Gibraltar Vikings with a pair of fast bursts of offense in the first half before cruising to a 79-46 win in front of its home crowd on Monday night.
The two teams traded buckets in the opening minutes of the first half before the Storm engineered the first of two offensive bursts of more than 10 points unanswered to turn a four-point advantage into a lead of over 30 points. It was a credit to the Storm's defense, which turned steals into points for Connor Kilgore and Diesel Bosdeck. The pair combined for 27 first-half points to carry a 49-20 lead into the break.
Although they could not take bigger bites out of their deficit, the Vikings answered head coach Travis Ward's call to action in the second half to increase the intensity, thanks partly to Liam Lindenberg's second half. He scored 10 of his team-high 18 points after the break to pace the Vikings. While Kilgore and Bosdeck cooled off in the second half, Avery Jerabek and Dane Harrell carried the torch for the Storm in the second half, keeping the Vikings at bay by 25 points or more for most of the frame.
Kilgore led the Storm with 19 points, Jerabek registered 15 points, Bosdeck added 14 points, and Harrell chipped in 12 points. Complementing Lindenberg's 18 points for the Vikings were Kayin Jackson's eight points and six points apiece from Braden Kita and Jeffrey Mize.
The Vikings are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Hilbert, while the Storm will wait until Friday to play Valders on the road.
