Kewaunee storms back to stun Clippers on U102.1

Trailing by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Kewaunee Storm rallied to defeat the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 62-61 in a thrilling Packerland Conference game on Tuesday night.

Braxton Riha’s ten-foot floater in the lane capped a 20-4 Kewaunee run in the final seven minutes as the Storm turned away the upset-minded Clippers at home.

Kewaunee opened the game with a 7-0 lead before Sturgeon Bay took control behind Calvin Richard who hit two three-pointers and scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half.

Sturgeon Bay would go into halftime with a 33-26 lead at intermission and extend the lead in the second half.

Both teams were plagued with cold-shooting and turnovers most of the night, but Kewaunee would turn the game around in the final stretch with key steals and some big shots in the clutch.

Thomas Stangel led the way for Kewaunee with 24 points, while Riha added 13 points, including eight in the second half.

Sturgeon Bay was led by Garrett Ulberg with 15 points and a perfect 7/7 from the free throw line.  Richard added 14 and Gannon Evers chipped in nine.

Kewaunee (6-0, 8=3 overall) will now face undefeated Southern Door (6-0) on Thursday night at home in a showdown in the conference.

Sturgeon Bay (3-3, 6-7 overall) will host Gibraltar on Thursday in a game that will be broadcast on 105.1 The Goat with pregame at 7:15 p.m. and tip at 7:30 p.m.
