Storm trounces Pioneers on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm blitzed the Sevastopol Pioneers 47-22 in the battle of the top two teams in the Packerland Conference Thursday night in Institute.

Applying a full-court pressure defense from the start, Kewaunee jumped to a 15-2 lead early and held the Pioneers scoreless for the game's first seven minutes.

Taking advantage at the free throw line, the Storm hit a perfect 12 for 12 from the charity stripe in the first half and extended the lead to 23-6 with five minutes left.  Kewaunee would then go into halftime leading 26-10, with Jade Kroll hitting an incredible three-pointer from over half-court to end the first half.

Kewaunee kept the pressure on in the second half, building a lead as large as 23 points, and never let Sevastopol get comfortable in their half court-offense.

Brianna Demmin had a massive game for the Storm, scoring 18 points while going perfect from the free throw line, hitting all 12 of her attempts.  Braelyn Chevalier added 10 points, and Kroll chipped in eight more as Kewaunee stays perfect for the season.  The Storm finished nearly perfectly from the free throw line, going 16 for 17.

Naomi Rikkola tried to keep the Pioneers in the game and tallied 26 points, but only two other players scored for Sevastopol, with Kayla Ranly adding five points and Libby Ash two.

Kewaunee (5-0, 9-0 overall) will now play Denmark next Friday night at home in a non-conference game, while Sevastopol (4-1, 7-2 overall) will have an extended break and return playing on Tuesday, January 2nd at home against Oneida Nation.
