Perfect Storm blows past Eagles on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm remained perfect in the Packerland Conference Friday night with a convincing 48-6 victory over the previously undefeated Southern Door Eagles on 104.1 WRLU.

Taking the opening drive down to the 32-yard in Eagle territory, the Storm overcame a fourth and ten and took a 6-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Thomas Stangel to Maddux Mueller with 7:01 left in the first quarter.

After the Eagles failed to take advantage of a Drew Daoust interception at midfield late in the first quarter, the Storm struck on the very first play of the second quarter on an electrifying 84-yard run by Owen Carlson to take a 12-0 lead.

Kewaunee would score one more time before the half on a 10-yard scamper by Tyler VanGoethem to make the score 19-0 after the extra point by Mueller.

Carlson would score again early in the third quarter on a 51-yard run to give the Storm a 26-0 lead that left little doubt of the final outcome.

Southern Door did manage to score with 2:16 left in the third quarter on a 40-yard connection from quarterback Lauden Berg to wide receiver James Fish to cut the lead to 26-6.

The Storm would then put the game away with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, capped by a 40-yard run by Jackson Wisnicky.

Carlson’s evening ended with this third touchdown of the night as the Eagle defense had no answer for Kewaunee’s vaunted rushing attack.  Carlson now has 25 rushing touchdowns for the season and 29 overall.

Kewaunee (6-0, 8-0 overall) can claim the outright Packerland Conference championship with a win next Friday when they play winless Peshtigo on the road.

Southern Door (5-1, 7-1 overall) will now play host to the Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a rivalry game next Friday at home.
