Kewaunee STORMS past Spartans after weather delay on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not over come two storms on Friday night as they fell to the Kewaunee Storm 31-22 and could not overtake Kewaunee after a long weather delay in Kewaunee.

Spartan Max Ronsman starting the scoring with a one-yard fun in the first quarter, only to see Kewaunee strike back with a 52-yard touchdown run by Owen Carlson with about five minutes left in the first quarter.

Kewaunee made their extra point and the score was 7-6 in favor of the Storm.

The Spartans then would go on a long drive ending with Max Ronsman losing a fumble at the 10 yard-line as the first quarter expired.

Then the game was delayed for over 45 minutes as lighting and a major thunderstorm rolled through the area.

When the game resumed, Kewaunee came out and threw a bomb from Thomas Stangel to Maddix Mueller for 90-yard touchdown strike to shock the Spartans on the first play of the second quarter to make it 14-6.

Kewaunee would close out the first half with a school-record field goal from Mueller who nailed a 43-yarder as time expired to give the Storm a 17-6 lead into halftime.

Luxemburg-Casco would take the opening drive of the second half and score on a four-yard run by Ronsman.  A two-point conversion would make the score 17-14, but that was as close as the Spartans would get in the second half.

Stangel would score on a one-yard run with 3:07 left in the third quarter and Kewaunee extended the lead to 24-14 and would never look back.

Luxemburg-Casco (1-1) will now play the New London Bulldogs next Friday while Kewaunee (2-0) will now travel to Marinette next Friday to take on the Marines.

The Kewaunee-Marinette pregame is set for 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU with kick-off set for 7 p.m. from Kewaunee .  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.
