The Kewaunee Storm girls rallied from an eight point deficit in the second half but ultimately fell to the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans 38-37 Monday night in a non-conference basketball game in Kewaunee.  Two free throws by Magdeline Hanmann with 4.4 second left gave the Spartans the win after a three-pointer by Kewaunee’s Gabrielle Stangel rimmed out at the buzzer.

The Spartans held the lead throughout the first half, leading by as many as six points, before going into halftime ahead 14-11.  Both team’s defenses caused numerous turnovers and cold shooting for most of the night.

Luxemburg-Casco would go up by as many as eight points, 31-23, in the second half before the Storm came rolling back to take a 37-36 lead on a Brianna Demmin jumper with about two minutes to play.

The Spartans called their last timeout with 11 seconds left and that’s when Hanmann drove to the hoop and was fouled with just over four seconds to play.  Stangel’s running three-pointer from the top of the key  just missed and L-C came away with the hard fought victory.
