Kewaunee boys show dominance in rivalry game vs. Algoma

The Kewaunee Storm kicked off Packerland Conference play when they welcomed the Algoma Wolves in the Storm’s home opener. Kewaunee emerged victorious, winning 59-38. The leading scorer for the Storm was senior forward Cal Ihlenfeldt, who had 14 points. The game was 25-13 at halftime in favor of Kewaunee. After halftime Kewaunee went on a huge run giving them the comfortable lead.

Kewaunee played a different basketball style than we saw against Brillion and Luxemburg-Casco. Cal Ihlenfeldt was the biggest player on the court, allowing the Storm to play bully basketball. Ihlenfeldt was able to control the paint with his scoring but also with rebounds. Payton Kohnle had 10 points, while Sawyer Pribek had 12. A key bench player for the Storm was Jordan Brann, who could dribble around Algoma’s attempt at full-court pressure, and he could find his open teammates.

Kaden Vardon was Algoma’s leading scorer with 16. He filled the spot of Algoma’s all-time leading scorer Carter Zimmerman who graduated last year. Chase Romdenne had 12 points of his own in the contest.

Kewaunee travels to Gibraltar next Tuesday while Algoma hosts NEW Lutheran.
