Storm upset Eagles on rainy night on U102.1

The Kewaunee Storm pulled off the upset of all upsets Friday night in Southern Door, as the Storm beat the Eagles 15-12 to win a regional final.

Kewaunee opened the game with a flea flicker, as Jesse Morales-Hernandez flipped it to Mitchell Thompson who found Peyton Kohnle for a 60 yard gain. Thompson would then drive the pile for a one yard touchdown.

Drew Daoust and the Southern Door Eagles would answer back quickly as Daoust lead the offense down the field with big runs from Zack Lynch. Daoust would roll to his right and run into the endzone, but fail the two point conversion to make it a 7-6 Kewaunee lead.

Mitchell Thompson would make a mistake and fire a pick to safety Jack Peterson who would return the interception down to the five yard line. Zack Lynch would then punch it in from 5 yards out the very next play, but another failed 2 point conversion would make it 12-7.

That score would hold until some drama before the half, as the Storm would be denied the ability to run a play as the clock was not started right away, which would end the half with the score remaining at 12-7 even with Thompson getting into the endzone if the play would have counted.

The score would not change until six minutes left in the fourth quarter, as DJ Echos would take a handoff on a weird exchange 72 yards untouched to seal the game for the Storm.

Kewaunee will move on to face the reigning Division 5 state champions Aquinas, as the Southern Door Eagles will prepare for their winter sports seasons.
