Thompson adds another nomination

Senior Quarterback Mitchell Thompson has the chance to earn some hardware this season. Besides the obvious gold ball every team is going for at the end of the season, Thompson is one of many senior quarterbacks around the state mentioned on the Preseason Watch List for the Dave Krieg Award.

The Dave Krieg Award, won last year by Franklin quarterback Myles Burkett, who now plays for the Wisconsin Badgers, is given to the top senior quarterback in the state. Thompson is arguably one of the best signal caller in the conference, so the nomination is well deserved. Kewaunee’s dominant offense of last season will need to become more pass heavy without Anthony Jerabek, but does return Jesse Morales-Hernandez, who toasted the Southern Door Eagles for over 200 yards rushing in 2 weeks last season. The Storm do lose top receiving threat from last year Benjamin Heim, but saw others step up throughout the season last year down the stretch. Thompson threw for just over 1300 Yards and 13 touchdowns last season, good enough to earn him first team honors. Kewaunee will look to rely on the senior to lead them to another conference championship again this season.

The only other player from around the area on the list was Southern Door quarterback Jack Peterson. Thompson will have to show off his great arm that was on display last season, to lead the Storm to potentially another conference championship and beyond.
