Kewaunee plays Michigan team Friday night; kickoff moved up to 6:30 pm

The Kewaunee Storm will play an out-of-state matchup before making its deep dive into the Packerland Conference slate when it hosts Menominee Friday night.

The Storm lost late last week when Kiel scored a touchdown in overtime to steal the game in front of its home fans 13-7. Kyle Karnopp scored the lone points for the Storm with a two-yard touchdown run.

It is the season opener for the Maroons, which will also play four other Wisconsin teams this fall. In its lone Wisconsin matchup last year, it defeated its rival Marinette 42-8.

Due to the cancellation of fall football last season and all the games were played on the road during the spring on field turf, Friday will be the first home game in almost two years. Kewaunee will also be dedicating and renaming its football field after long-time football coach, Don Rabas, who passed away earlier this year. Rabas was able to pay tribute to Rabas on his funeral day, letting the hearse drive across the field.

The kickoff was scheduled for 7 p.m. but has been moved up to 6:30 pm due to

the weather predicted for later tonight, according to Kewaunee Athletic Director Brian Rabas.  The field dedication will now take place at 6:25 pm.
