Kewaunee wins season opening dual over Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol

The Kewaunee Storm wrestling team was able to win its first match of the year Tuesday night, defeating Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol 42-30.

The night was dictated by pins and forfeits with only five varsity matches taking place. The two teams had double forfeits at 160 and 182 and the Storm was spotted three extra forfeits. The Clippineers actually bested the Storm in wins on the evening 3-2, starting off with Nick West pinning Jacob Van Goethem at the 285 pound weight class. After trading forfeits for four straight weight classes, the Clippineers' Ben DeNamur used his leg riding ability to wear down Mitchell Van Goethem before eventually getting the pin at 132. The Storm rattled off 24 straight points thanks to a pair of forfeits and pins by Max Severin and Logan Steinhorst. The Clippineers finished the evening off with a victory at 195 pounds when Drew Barganz was able to throw Kemper Robinson onto his back for the pin.

The Storm is scheduled to be back in action against Lena on December 15th.
