The football team is the only sport at Kewaunee hanging on for hope this fall season. The school board approved its other fall sports like volleyball, soccer, and cross country to play in the alternative spring season, which is slated to begin near the beginning of March. Football was the lone holdout due to concerns about the weather, field conditions, and getting enough games. The Storm was hoping to get on the field next Friday against Southern Door, but an extension of their virtual learning last week ended those hopes. Earlier this year, school officials decided that if students were not 100 percent in the classroom that they would not be able to practice or compete. Athletic Director Brian Rabas notified Southern Door’s athletic director Korey Mallien that they would not be able to play on October 16th earlier this week. Rabas says there has been a lot of frustration, but also understanding.

The earliest the Storm could make it on the field would be October 23rd when they are scheduled to play Peshtigo. A game against Clintonville the following week is also in doubt because similarly, that school district has also opted not to hold practices or competitions until they are out of virtual instruction.
