Kewaunee girls survive second-round scare

Coming off a bye, the Kewaunee High School girls’ basketball team got a taste of postseason play Friday night. Kewaunee survived against Denmark, 50-46. It was close throughout, the Storm nursed a one-point halftime lead and never could pull away. Denmark plays in the North Eastern Conference, against larger schools. Sharpened by a tougher level of competition, the Vikings were able to give state-ranked Kewaunee everything they could handle.

Kewaunee’s leading scorer was Hailey Gaedtke (15 points), followed closely by Mackenzie Tlachac (14). Denmark’s Jessica Heraly had a game-high 21 points. Kewaunee returns to the court Saturday, another home game against Kewaskum. The Indians wrecked Brillion Friday, 55-28.
