Kewaunee girls best bitter rival

Kewaunee and Algoma High Schools have one of the oldest rivalries in the state and that carried onto the hardwood Monday night. The Storm got the better of the matchup on the road, 55-27. Late in the first half the game remained close, Kewaunee nursing a 20-15 advantage before rattling off 15 straight points to win going away.

Mackenzie Tlachac led Kewaunee with 20 points, near her season average, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Ashley Pawlitzky also got to double figures for Kewaunee, netting 10. Algoma was led by Sydney Zimmerman’s nine. Algoma scored 12 of its first 15 points from behind the three-point line but when Kewaunee clamped down defensively, the Wolves were lost trying to find offensive production.

Kewaunee faces Gibraltar Friday at home. Algoma’s next game is against NEW Lutheran.
