Kewaunee basketball teams both pick up wins

The Kewaunee High School girls basketball team remains perfect for the season, now 7-0, after a win against Seymour in a nonconference tilt Friday. The Storm’s defense was a blanket of cold rain on the Thunder offense, with the final score 51-39. Only one Seymour player got to double digits. Rilee Powless paced the squad with 12 points. Kewaunee, by comparison, had three players net at least 13. Katie Metzler led the team. Kewaunee’s next game is Monday at Oconto.

The Kewaunee boys sprinted out to a 10-point halftime lead at NEW Lutheran and were able to maintain it in the final 18 minutes. Kewaunee prevailed, 66-53.  It was not a characteristic Storm win. Ryan Carmichael was limited to 13 points but Tanor Bortolini exploded for 21 at center. NEW Lutheran was led by Marshall Bukowski with 21. Elijah Lange chipped in 13. Kewaunee improved to a league-leading 4-0 in the conference.
