Kewaunee football holds on in Manawa

In the first quarter Friday night, a running clock looked like a foregone conclusion as Kewaunee jumped out to a 21-0 lead over the Wolves. Kewaunee opened up its bag of tricks early with running back Owen Kudick delivering a pass to receiver Max Hanrahan for 70 yards. The rest of the way it was Ryan Carmichael throwing for Kewaunee. He ended the night 12-24 for 172 yards and a TD. Kudick returned to the run game and was equally productive with 180 yards on 25 attempts and 2 TDs.

Manawa wouldn’t go away though. They flipped the script in the second quarter, blanking the Storm 21-0 and at the half it was tied up. Manawa took its first lead of the game in the fourth when quarterback Mason Wiesner connected for 24 yards to Riley Krenke. The extra point was unsuccessful and Manawa led 30-28. Kewaunee wrested the lead back with Kudick’s second TD run and a Carmichael two-point conversation scamper to make the score a 36-30 final.
